ITEMS OF INTEREST

Trash at Circle Beach

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Town Trustees Ann Welker and Scott Horowitz met with NCC members to discuss the garbage dumping issues at Circle Beach. Town Councilman Tommy John Schiavoni also attended. Local residents have complained that people dump household garbage at Circle Beach without regard for sanitary conditions. The Trustees agreed that this is a problem seen at many locations and remarked that if cans are not there, the trash doesn’t accumulate.

Circle beach is Town Trustee monitored and enforcement is done by the Bay Constable.

Due to issues of compliance, it was decided that:

  • garbage cans and the dog waste receptacle will be removed (pick up bags will remain)

  • appropriate signage installed

  • the possible addition of cameras to record violators

  • fines issued

The NCC asked for more media support and public outreach to notify people of strict enforcement for beach litter violations.

SHUFSD & CPF Marsden Purchase Update

Also at our Nov. 2 meeting, Councilman Tommy John Schiavoni explained the process of using CPF monies to purchase land and how the Town Council must have public hearings and a public vote before allowing CPF monies to be spent. He said the Town Council, “must do some soul searching since this decision may impact the 12 school districts in the Town.”

The NCC contacted Superintendent Jeff Nichols to ask what is the next step for the District since the vote to purchase the Marsden property was passed on Nov. 3. The Superintendent and Business Administrator said they would like to expand outreach with the Noyac community and we are currently trying to set up a meeting with them. PLANTING EVENT - LONG BEACH RE-VEGETATION -
PLEASE VOLUNTEER! Saturday, December 10

The plants from our April event are thriving but more beach plantings are needed to continue this project to protect Long Beach from erosion. Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 10! Again, this will be done with the help of the Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Town of Southampton.

Councilman Schiavoni invites persons of all ages to volunteer and participate for an hour or two as was done last April. No experience necessary. This is part of the ongoing project that the NCC has been promoting for some time. More info to come.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY!
Saturday, December 10 at MJ Dowlings, Noyac Road

The traditional Noyac Children’s Christmas Party, generously hosted and sponsored by Mike and Betty Dowling of MJ Dowling’s Steak House on Noyac Road will take place on Saturday December 10 from 11 am - 1 pm.

Parents/guardians are asked to bring a hidden, surprise wrapped gift with your child’s name on it that will be given to an elf at the door. The elf will bring the gift to Santa who will surprise your child with it during the party.

Thank you, Mike and Betty – this is an event loved and cherished by all the children in Noyac!

East Hampton Airport

Unfortunately the airport issue remains unclear. Noyac residents are encouraged to continue filing complaints. Given the outrage of East Hampton residents, Noyac may again become the victim next season.

In-person meetings at the Old Noyac Schoolhouse

The NCC wants to return to in-person meetings. We are looking into setting up hybrid in-person/zoom meetings at the Old Noyac Schoolhouse. In order to facilitate this, we have been working with Councilman Schiavoni to get the Town to improve the internet service there. This on-going project will take some time, but we are confident it will be resolved. Let us know if you have thoughts on this issue.

NCC December Meeting Change

Due to a scheduling conflict, we will have to postpone the Sag Harbor Historical Society presentation by Aubrey Peterson, Jr. who will be in the midst of his college finals. We are going to try to have this wonderful presentation at our January meeting instead. Please check back for details.

The December meeting topic is TBD at this time. We will update you as soon as we secure the topic and guest(s).

NCC Year-end Appeal/Fundraising and Events

Once again we are not able to have our annual Holiday Dinner Dance. It has been increasingly difficult to find an affordable venue for this much loved event in Noyac. We are now trying to have an outdoor event in the Spring.

LAND PLANNING & ZONING ISSUES

Cedar Point Lane: A compound is being planned seeking relief from Chapter 330-9D(4) Code (density incentive provisions). See photo of sign below. What are the plans to build such density on this property that borders the waters off Morton Wildlife Refuge, and Clam Island County Park? Please review and attend the ZBA meeting on Nov. 17, 6:00 PM via video conference. This FYI link shows the property with 4 lots on 3.4 acres: https://outeast.com/properties/sales/313283
