Items of Interest:
Judge James Ferreira issued his decision on the Town of Southampton vs. NYSDEC. Details will follow. (The NCC has joined the Town, the Suffolk County Health Dept., Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Jr., Group for the East End, Campaign for the Environment and the Southampton Civics in suing the DEC for its reversal of its September, 2018 ruling. The DEC gave the Sand Land Mine a permit for another 8 years which would allow the mine to excavate 40 feet deeper to our aquifer. The Health Dept.’s June, 2018 report cited the Mine’s operations which contaminated our aquifer with pesticides, carcinogens, radio active chemicals, etc. ).
Thank you to those who wrote letters or made phone calls or signed petitions asking for a public hearing with the DEC in the newly issued Sand Land Mine permit. We gathered 757 signatures. To date we have not heard from the DEC on this matter. The NCC will continue to demand a public hearing.
