Sand Land Mine:
As you may remember, the Appellate Court ruled that NYS DEC had broken the law by granting a permit to Sand Land to expand and the Court annulled the Mine’s permit. NYS Attorney General Leticia James declared that her agency will no longer represent the DEC in court actions dealing with Sand Land. Southampton Town issued a “Stop Work Order,” but the Mine ignores it. Code Enforcement issues tickets, but operations continue. The mining is now getting dangerously close to the aquifer, our source of water for the East End, even if you purchase Suffolk County Water. Contamination has not been remediated. The Health Department found carcinogens, pesticides, arsenic and excessive heavy metals in the aquifer. Why is the Mine continuing to operate mining sand illegally? How long before individual homes are affected? It is time for the DEC to follow the Court’s ruling and close the mine. It is time for Southampton to take a more aggressive stance and protect our drinking water. The NCC will not rest until our water supply is protected and ensured clean.Airport:
The East Hampton Town Board has committed to make improvements by imposing restrictions. NCC continues to support efforts to reduce the noise and pollution over our community. Please continue to submit complaints and demand flights over Noyac be eliminated.Long Beach Plantings:
We reached out to Kristen M. Doulos, Parks Director, on the status. We thank her for her prompt reply and look forward to the plans to re-establish plantings: “I don't think we'll be able to replant a mulberry as they are not native. We were looking at some native alternatives like a honey locust or white oak but the challenge with any of these trees is that they would need regular irrigation for at least the first year until the roots establish. We are still trying to coordinate a clean-up/planting/educational event at Long Beach with Cornell Cooperative Extension. We were hoping to have it in October but they have been having some staffing challenges, however, we still may try to do something with them in December. If not, it will be in the spring. Thank you.”NCC Annual Fundraiser Cancelled:
Unfortunately, “Fall into the Holidays” is postponed until next year. The Executive Committee cited the COVID virus as the reason for its postponement. This event is our major Fund Raiser and the source of our scholarship money. If you care to make a donation to this fund, please send a check to the NCC, P.O. Box 2565, Sag Harbor, NY 11963. Or visit our website to donate online. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of the NCC's mission.Children’s Christmas Party Cancelled:

Our sign on the east end of Noyac Road is missing! Initially one of the posts was broken by a tree but the sign was ok. The sign damage appears to have happened later after the tree was removed and the sign went missing. Please contact the NCC if you have any information or know where it went.
