A ZOOM presentation of his 2021 Exhibit at Sag Harbor Historical Society
“Then & Now: A Story of Immigration in Sag Harbor”
Aubrey Peterson who has been a Sag Harbor Historical Society docent since his sixth-grade year, curated this exhibit, “Then & Now: A Story of Immigration in Sag Harbor.” “All of us came from somewhere,” says Aubrey in an interview with the Sag Harbor Express, “save for the Native Americans who have been here 11,000 years.” Through a sequence of story boards, Aubrey encapsulates the immigration history of Sag Harbor with snapshots beginning with the Native Americans through to today’s “new arrivals.” Meaningful glimpses of the waves of the English, African Americans, Irish, Jews, and Italians each focus on one representative of each group such as Pyrrhus Concer and Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, Sag Harbor's great benefactor.
WE HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US!
Below are the graphics developed for the exhibit to accompany Aubrey’s presentation; a timeline and posters…
UPDATES
PARKS UPDATES
Volunteers will be needed for upcoming Spring events:
Long Beach Revegetation (round 3; Date TBD): The NCC hopes to meet with Councilman Schiavoni and Parks & Rec Director Doulos to discuss a plan based on our proposals before the next spring planting event.
Invasives at Trout Pond: Another weed pulling event will be planned in the Spring to help clear the pond for summer swimming.
Circle Beach: Town Trustees responded to residents concerns about excessive garbage dumping at the beach. The dog waste receptacle was removed and on Dec. 27th Trustee Ann Welker informed us:
“Just put up no garbage and no dog bag signs at Circle Beach. Unfortunately, because it is done under a town contract we could not replicate the [sign examples] you found. However, looking in to the possibility of other options for the future.”
The porta potties at Long Beach and Trout Pond are being returned after the NCC alerted our Parks Director, Kristen Doulos. Both facilities are used in the winter months and the lack of toilet facilities creates a public health concern. We’ve received reports of people “improvising” at Trout Pond. We thank Kristen for her quick response and care for Noyac.

SHUFSD & CPF MARSDEN PURCHASE UPDATE
The NCC is seeking more information from Southampton Town on the CPF portion of this issue and we will continue to give our members information on upcoming public hearings and meetings.
Sag Harbor School District held its first public forum on December 21st. Click here to view the video.

CPF PURCHASE OF 3398 NOYAC RD
The Town Council is waiting for contracts to be signed to proceed with purchasing the property at 3398 Noyac Road using CPF funds. Therefore, the Town’s Jan 10 meeting for public input has not been finalized. Hopefully we will hear soon from the Town Council whether the meeting on Jan. 10 will take place or be postponed.

DARK SKIES
Please check that your outdoor lighting complies with Southampton Town's Outdoor lighting code especially in winter when light trespass becomes more of an issue. For more resources please visit: Southampton Town Dark Skies Advisory Committee Web page.

SAND LAND
On January 3rd the Court of Appeals heard the oral arguments on Sand Land's appeal from the decision that annulled DEC's renewal/expansion permits for the mine. We are happy to hear that Councilman Schiavoni was in attendance at this hearing in Albany. Now we wait for the Judges' decision.
Also, in the Town's case against SL, Judge Baisley granted the motion for the Town to amend the complaint and has temporarily enjoined SL from “the receipt and processing of concrete, asphalt, brick, rock and stone into concrete blend and the defendants are temporarily enjoined from engaging in such activities pending further order of this Court.”

SAVE THE DATE: MAY 20th
Planning has started for a long awaited NCC social event! A tentative date of May 20th was chosen and volunteers are needed. REMINDER: 2023 DUES NOTICES WILL BE SENT IN JANUARY
Reminder that the Noyac Civic Council (NCC) annual dues notices will be sent towards the end of January. As NCC works to keep the dues affordable at $30 per year or $54 for two years (a 10% discount) it is important that members pay their dues as soon as possible to help NCC avoid the additional costs and efforts of our volunteers to send additional notices and to keep the organization’s expenses paid.
Additional contributions are certainly always helpful and we appreciate your generosity. Thank you all for your continued interest and support of the Noyac Civic Council to help represent your interests and those of your community.
