Representatives from Surfrider Foundation’s Blue Water Task Force, as well as, our Southampton Town Trustees will provide information on projects and issues they have been working on. There will be time to ask questions and hear about volunteer opportunities.

About the Eastern Long Island Chapter

The Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island Chapter is the East End's local Surfrider chapter, operating from Moriches Inlet out to Montauk and on the North Fork. Volunteers assist with a robust water sampling program known as the Blue Water Task Force, push for environmental campaigns, and host more beach cleanups than any other local organization. About the Southampton TOwn Trustees

The Trustees are a select group of individuals whose sole responsibility is the protection of the shores, bays and lake bottoms and their produce for the benefit of the Town's residents.

Current duties and projects:

  • In charge of managing 26000 acres of underwater lands and 100 lakes and ponds

  • Annually reseed the bay with shellfish and restock the fresh water bodies with fish

  • Run the pump out program which removes over 100,000 gallons of effluent from the environment every year, which is free of charge for the boating community.

  • Oversee the endangered species program in the town

  • Oversee dock and bulkhead permits in the town

  • Work with the county, state, and federal government on multiple dredging projects for safe navigation and good water quality.

  • Working with Stony Brook College and Cornell on various water quality and shellfish management areas with in the town.

  • We issue mooring permits for the town waters

  • Maintain docks and launching ramps for public access
